Back when we used the trading post there was a decent amount of activity there but since we moved to this classified ad type system it seems activity has a dropped a lot. I can tell based on the items I advertised there that much fewer people are looking, and anyone can see that fewer people are selling.

The problem is that it is simple less convenient, and people are lazy enough that they don't want to look through 8 categories to see whats for sale. With the trading post you could list all the junk you wanted to get rid of in 1 thread, and every person that visited the trading post saw your thread.

The system we have now would be better I think if we had a much larger amount of traffic using it, but for our purposes I think the trading post like before would be better.

The andantech forum uses a trading post like how we used to have ours, and they are an example of a forum that needs a system like what we've moved to. I made a thread advertising some parts I'm selling and the forum is so active that within 30 minutes enough other threads had been made or posted in that mine was shoved down to the next page.

When we converted to the current system 2 years ago, we had an extensive discussion among the staff. There are valid reasons behind the scenes to keep it the way it is. Thank you for your suggestion, but we aren't going back.

Would it be possible to at least partially explain the reasons, so I can stop myself from wondering why we changed ;)

1) Spam magnet
2) High maintenance of staff required to enforce the selling rules
3) Smacking members on the back of the head for not being able to resist the urge to say THAT's WAY TO MUCH FOR THAT OLD STUFF
4) Deals gone bad - broken sparts sent - money not sent - ill will all around
5) You get the picture
