I’d love to keep expense as low as possible, any advice on that? I really trust people here, please comment frankly. This is my first time building a PC.

You listed ram under for your optical drive, for the optical look at a retail Lite-On DVD burner. They come with the burning software.
Don't see a video card on you list, does the Gigabyte mobo have on-board video?

Hey, what will you be using this PC for?
What is your price limit so we can make some adjustments where neccasary.

The case is good Lian Li's are great cases. The Corsair power supply is also a good pick.

For the motherboard I'd either go with the ASUS P5K or P5B, pretty much everyone here will recommend one of those 2 boards.

The E4400 is a good processor for a cheap price. I have one myself and runs games great. Your hard drive is also a good pick. Your memory is also a good pick, Corsair is one of the highest recommended brands of Memory here, and the 2GB Valueselect is a great buy.

For the optical drive, I'd say get a Lite-On over the Corsair. You listed memory as your optical drive.

Your going to need a video card with this build, I'll recommend 3 cards:
ATI X1950XT is a highly recommended, good bang for the buck Direct X9 Card. Its a little under $200

If you don't want to spend that much, you can get the GeForce 8600GT direct x10, which is also a great card, for about $120.

If you still want to keep it under that, look at the 7600GT, which is a direct x9 card and is under $100 i beleive.

Also, you'll need an operating system. Get either Windows XP OEM or Windows Vista OEM, don't buy a retail version of the OS.

what is the main difference between GIGBYTE mobo and ASUS mobo?
I don't have a big budget, but I wanna a decent PC (realize am gready:p ).

I am using this PC for a little gaming, mostly for school work. But I may be installing some hevy apps.

How about additional fans? Do I need any cooling stuff for this PC?

Asus is just a higher quality manufacturer then Gigabyte. Thats why we recommend them.

Your case comes with 4 fans, plenty of cooling. :)

If I run vista do you think all these components go with it fine?
Newegg reveiw says the HDD needs a upgrade to go with vista.
What about other parts?

everything should work with vista. just might want to check on the drivers for the video card. and the drivers for your monitor.

and your hdd will work fine with vista. i have the same hdd and am running vista 64 with no problems.


or you could just stick to xp, which most people here will probably recommend.

I have the brushed aluminum version of that case. I'm working on my build right now, and while I've had my fair share of other problems the case is absolutely perfect. I can't imagine how much more annoying the process would be without the case's easily removable motherboard tray and 3.5" disc enclosure. Plus it's just really roomy, looks gorgeous, has 4 fans, uses thumb screws (and includes plenty of extras), and all the wires are clearly labeled and well positioned. I could not be happier with the case - I hope you enjoy yours.

I was told the mobo GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX is a generation behind.
Which mobo do you recommend? I know I should not be stingy with mobo, but my wallet is getting quite light.

That motherboard is a generation behind because it uses the Intel 965 chipset. The latest Intel chipset is the P35. So we recommend the Asus P5K. If that is too tight on the budget, try the P5K-SE.

Unless you're overclocking, you don't need DDR2-800, but either of those will work just fine. Buy whichever type is cheapest at the moment.
