New Build...Dead Dead Dead!!!

Hi I just did my first completely new build and I have big trouble...

Tried the first Startup and all that went on were the fans and LEDs

Read the Forum and assembled everything on Cardboard and it fired up for about 30 secs. and died.

I tested the PS and it was dead. Sent it back to Neweeg and bought a cheap case, PS, and Graphics card to see if I could get it to boot up and set up my Bios etc.

No Dice...this thing is dead...dead in the case and dead on cardboard...I tested the PS and it is ok...The HD seems to want to work and so does the DVD...I have no way to test the CPU, MOBO, or the RAM sticks...could the first PS have fried any or all of this?

I need to find out so I can RMA the stuff back to Newegg before my time runs out..

I am already on borrowed time since the case came a week after everything else even though I ordered all at the same time...

the big thing is to check that the CPU heatsink is fully latched in at all 4 corners. If even 1 locking pin isn't locked in, the CPU can overheat quickly and shut down the system.

My Cooler is a ZEROtherm BTF80 92mm Silent UFO CPU Cooler...it literally screws down onto the CPU for positive contact...I did remove it to check it and the thermal transfer goo was perfectly spread across the CPU and Heatsink with no excess...I'm going to check my components on a friends computer to see what is what...

Could be the first PSU took any number of parts with it. Does your mobo have a power LED on it? IF so is it lighting up? If it is you have power to your MOBO and I would check the RAM and CPU. If its not those then its a chip on our mobo that fried.

No LED on the MOBO but the guy at the puter store told me that if I removed the RAM chips and plugged it in and hit the power button, the MOBO should make a beeping noise through the speaker(Does that make sense?)...I did this and no beeping...no nothing...so I have concluded that the MOBO is dead...I am taking the RAM, CPU, and Graphics card to the shop to have them tested. Should I also take the sound card to see if it too is fried?


Am I right to conclude that if the HD is making some slight noises that is at least powered up and that the tray opening and closing on the DVD means that it too is in working order?

Having the HD make spinning sounds and the tray operate on the DVD is a sign that they are getting power to operate the motors but doesn't mean that they are OK electronicly. They would need to be tested in a known working unit.

I had everything tested...the PS was bad...the MOBO was bad...evreything else was good...


I was going to buy a MOBO locally to use until I got my RMA from "pristine ova" but there are no stores within 40 miles that have a board to support my CPU...

I hate waiting...what should have been a trouble free experience has turned into a major debacle that will end up costing me as much as I would have paid to order my components from a local shop...I believe it will also take longer...

My friend ordered about a week before me and has had no trouble with his build...
