i was just bored so started looking around my computer. went into the device manager and noticed that it had my mouse, which is a MX400, listed as a MX 320. i know i installed teh correct drivers, so i decided to uninstall it.
did that, and windows installed it's own generic drivers and my mouse works.
my question is this: should i even care that it shows up wrong? and does it really matter if i install the drivers from the manufacter?

The basic windows driver will allow your mouse to work, but by not installing Logitech's drivers, you won't get full functionality - for example, more in-depth control over pointer movement, and the extra buttons. I'd download and install the newest Setpoint software here - select your operating system from the list.

my extra buttons seem to work, just like they did before i installed setpoint.
i have the driver standing by, but just wanted to see what everyones opinion was.
thanks for the feed back.
btw, should i be concerned that it doesn't show up as the correct mouse in device manager?

They will probably work, my point was that by not installing the setpoint software, you lose the ability to reassign them to other functions, and such like. There's really no reason not to install the new software - make sure you get version 4, it's the latest and best in my opinion.
Regarding the display name, install the driver and see what it's detected as in the set point software.

set point recognizes it correctly.
maybe i'm just bored and looking for a problem to fix....
and i have version 4.
this all started when i was trying to figure out how to costumize my buttons for games, but teh buttons didn't show up in the game to begin with.

If it's correct in Setpoint, then what device manager says wouldn't concern me.
I've never tried setting up the extra buttons for playing games, but my Setpoint software has a 'Games' tab on the left-hand side (with an MX Revolution mouse).
