The setup with my new build is as follows:

I have a MSI k9N SLI Platinum edition, running off the nforce 570 chipset, and an AM2 +6000 X2 processor.

When booting the computer everything turned on, fans, cards, etc... except the screen had the following error.

"Motherboard does not support or recognize the current revision of the processor" or something to that effect.

I went to the manufacturing site, and sure enough it lists only up to the 5200 as being compatible.

My question is that I've heard of people with THIS motherboard run it with the 6000. What's so different between 5200 and the 6000 that's so different it wouldn't allow it to run.

And what are my options?

If anyone has got those two up and running and wants to shed some light on their process let me know. I've searched all over, toms hardware, newegg, Msi, and even here and nothing's come up about this.

Thanks for the help.

The issue here is your BIOS version being old. It cannot recognize your chip because the 6000+ did not exist when it was written. You'll need to update it here: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=251

You'll need a supported chip to boot the system and update however. If you can borrow a chip from another system or a friend, that is the easiest way. Otherwise, you'll need to purchase a cheap CPU like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819104305

Thanks for your support, with that. Unfortunately there's no one willing to lend a supported cpu. So I'd have to buy one, and to be frank after reading some beta about flashing my bios, (which I've never come across before) I think I might be for trading out boards for and Asus that my friend bought. Runs cold as ice, and he has the same CPU and it worked without a hitch.

Thanks though for, it's a learning experience as always to remember not to overlook things.

So after much deliberation, I decided that learning about Flashing the Bios wouldn't be a bad thing, and a good learning experience.

However, after buying your recommended processor the same thing happened, same black screen with lettering telling me

"Warning: Unkonwn Processor Revision*****
The processor(s) installed in your system are of an unknown revision.
Please contact your BIOS vendor for appropriate updates.
Fatal Error... System Halted. "

However I restarted with the disk in and ditto on the message.

Then I tried to post the bios, and the message was the same with one exception. Above the following was stated, like a regular post.

CPU: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3400*
Speed : 1.81 GHz
DRAM clocking = 800 MHz, Dual Channel

1 AMD north Bridge, Rev Unknown
... etc,etc,etc..."

Once again I think I'm stuck in the same position, since this processor WILL Boot, but I need to have a working one.

And so off to the store again... my only question is if this doesn't work... what's going on with my Mobo?

Any suggestions, your ****ed, whatever you feel like contributing is much appreciated...

Ahhh the sweet pains of computer building.:(
