First build project

I need a new computer, and I'd like to build it myself. I have a tentative build plan, compiled on my NewEgg.com "shopping cart". I saved the HTML file - (attached), it includes product links, prices, etc.

Any input would be much appreciated.

you need to just put everything and save it in the public cart and place that link here.

Sorry about that, I tested whether hotlinking worked but I was still logged into that forum when I did it ><. Now it is attached.

I looked for a "public cart" and couldn't find it :/

Yeah, make a wishlist and post it here, then we can see what your looking at. But just so we can get some info from you now, what are you going to be using this PC for? Gaming? Buisiness stuff? Everyday use? Video Editing? Also, what is your budget? and would you like to go intel or amd?

My wishlist on NewEgg seems to be broken - when I try to use any of the features on that page nothing happens. I can add to "temporary wishlist" but cannot remove or save a wishlist.

I attached the cart html file to the first post though.

EDIT: It works great on IE7 but not on FireFox - lets see if I can transfer it somehow -_-

Trying to figure out how to move to where I could save it, my cart got cleared. Now I have to add all the items again, this time I'll do it on IE. God this pisses me off though. Once I'm doen I'll make a public wishlist.

ok, unless you're going to OC, you don't need the artic silver, or the cpu cooler. the stock heatsink will be good enough.

also, you could probably drop down in the PSU. maybe this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139001&Tpk=520hx

with 4gb of ram, you'll need a 64 bit OS if you want it to see all 4gb.

I don't have experience with overclocking (probably also not the need for it), but I would like to play with it.

The PSU was the part I was least certain about being adequate, so I'm sure I went overboard. Thanks for the alternative recommendation.

As for ram, I thought XP could recognize "up to" 4gb. Is it actually less?

xp 64 will see all 4gb.

the os you chose will only see upto around 3gb.

most people will probably suiggest that you only use 2gb unless you have a need for more right now.

but like i said, if going to get 4gb, then get a 64 bit OS. if not, then a 32 bit os like the one you chose will be good.

Instead of the CD ROM and the DVD burner. I'd get a DVD ROM and DVD burner.

Its only a few dollars more.

1) I dunno if you did this, but I usually go to pricewatch.com to find lower-priced hardware. I've never built a system that cost me up to $1,000. My gaming system at home actually cost me about $800, $900 tops and that was mostly because of the CPU and video card (I regret getting the video card that I did though. I have a Radeon card but it would seem the hardware and software don't want to work with F.E.A.R. - and sometime Doom 3 - so well, so I'm saving to get a GeForce).

2) Windows XP 32-bit will only see up to 2 GB of RAM, but the 64-bit will see a heluva lot more (2^32 may be over 4 billion, but Windows can only be tweaked to see up to 3 gigs).
