I just went from a 19" std crt to a 22" ws lcd.(Thanks for all the advice btw)
I use a ms trackball optical w/ Intellepoint.
I have always had the mouse xp speed setting at max. With the new ws I now have to pick my thumb up, move it to the other side of the ball, and then continue on son that the cursor moves all the way across the screen. (like picking up the mouse and moving it back to the other side of the pad).
Anyway to get past this insufficient speed? Reg edit?
(btw-I really dont want to give up my trackball or the old intellipoint 2.1 w/ program specific mouse buttons)
Have you also maxed out the acceleration?

Just lube up the track ball and giv'er a spin. Ok, I was kidding.
Aside from maxing out acceleration, there is bound to be a registry value...but I'm not sure I'd go trying to find out.
Trial and error in regedit isn't among the smartest things humans are capable of.

Yes i did. actually there is only a speed setting (at max) and no acceleration setting.
I downloaded the latest intellitype 6.1 and it sucked.
It wouldnt remember the application specific button settings for firefox. MS dont like FF I assume. It also didnt increase speed or cursor movement any better then the 4.1 I had been using. ...I went back to 4.1
It would be great to edit the reg and speed the darn cursor up some more.
Is there a universal pointer software w/ app specific buttons?

The device I have was working fine until yesterday when I hooked up my w/s.
Besides, I HATE mice. If you ever tried and got used to a thumbed trackball you'd know.
For me to go to a silly 3 button $20 mouse when I use a device with 5 programmable buttons would be crazy. With a track, there is no movement of your wrist or arm, EVER, saving a ton of ligament strain. All 5 buttons are application specific. For XP I use one extra button for 'close' and the other for 'enter'. It saves a lot of aggravation.
Once you track - you NEVER go back.

I used to use a trackball a lot. It's just too hard to come across one that I like these days. If I found one that wasn't of poor quality and I could play some games on the thing (think a hig end Logitech, only trackball style) as well as run application specific commands on the thing, I'd be there.

this (http://www.microsoft.com/products/info/product.aspx?view=22&pcid=10426173-9aba-45eb-b7ce-af9ef9724d3d&type=ovr) is what I use and love it. Its out of production I think.
Five buttons is awesome for gaming and many other apps. Since you dont move your hand your fingers easily hit the extra buttons.
Hell they could make it with 7 buttons and I'd buy & use it. Put below the ball by the thumb and another for the pinky finger and it would be sweet.
Why do they stop with 3 buttons? Do they think we're spastic?

I'm with you mate... I've got a similar mouse, but better in that it use my forefingers for the wheel, thumb for primary two buttons plus scroller, and ring and little for the other two buttons. Alas, Microsoft stopped making them years ago, and I only managed to find one a few years back.
And Icyman, he wasn't yelling at you... if he was, it would have been written in capitals, and a mod would have warned him. So there's no need to repeatedly say sorry or get defensive. Lets move on and all be happy little Vegemites :)
