Hey all, although I am having several minor issues with my computer at the moment, one of the more annoying ones is that my CD-ROM drive has apparently decided to stop opening. It happened to me about 2 years ago on an older computer, and it ended up being I had checked something (forget what, maybe write combining or something) that had prevented the drive from opening.

I don't really know what it is, but it looks like the drive is inserted properly and sitting straight, so I know its not stuck. (At least, im fairly certain it isn't). Are there any other things that could cause it to not open? My DVD-ROM drive opens fine, btw.

Thanks!

Have you tried to open it using a straightened paper clip yet?

I haven't, is there somewhere in particular I should put the paperclip?!

There's usually a small hole somewhere on the front of the CD-ROM face plate. Just stick the paper clip in until you feel it hit something and then give a push.

Okay, just tried that - didn't work. The green light on the drive blinked when I hit the level or whatever is inside with the paperclip, but the tray did not open.

You gotta push the paperclip in pretty hard because you're trying to manually push the tray open.

Is that CD-ROM drive 2 years old? I would just remove it and use the DVD drive.
