hi everyone,

been looking at building out two RAID arrays, need the hardware cards. Hard to find reviews of these (in comparison, it's very easy to find reviews of hard drives) and wondering if I've missed any.

The Areca ARC-1210 looks to be good, that's the 4-port version. This will be fine for SATA Raptors, however this is not SAS and I need SAS for the other array.

I have also looked at the Adaptec 3405/3805 which is SAS but on one forum I read to stay away from Adaptec... relatively low quality parts and high prices.

So, where do I go if I want a good (i.e. fast and reliable) 4-port SAS controller on PCI express for under $500 - and one that won't give me trouble when I come to setting up a boot array on Asus workstation board.

Anyone have some advice on tihs?

If it'll help, I and many people think Adaptec is a good quality maker.

What about SLI? (Not sure which are the models to go for here.)

I will not use anything BUT an Adaptec.
