No sound, please help!

Hi,
I have recently removed my sound card (SB X-FI Xtreme Music) from my motherboard (Nvidia 680i SLI). I was under the impression that the 680i SLI motherboard had a built in sound card, since it has plugs for headphones, speakers, mic, etc.. However, after uninstalling the drivers from my sound card and removing my sound card, then rebooting my computer with my headphones plugged into the motherboard audio ports, I have no sound.

I went to Change a Setting under control panel, and then Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices, and when I went to change my system volume, it said I had no audio device (therefore I couldn't change anything).

I am hoping somebody has some experience using an on-board sound card, and can help me!

I believe you have to enable on board sound in BIOS.

Thanks, I'll do that now. Also, I have one more quick question: When I go to control panel, then Add Hardware --> Existing Hardware, I get a list of all the hardware installed on my computer. At the top of the list I have "PCI Device?"

It would seem that whatever it is isn't working properly.. I know when I had my sound card installed I had the same issue. I'm not sure what it is, but every now and then I get blue screen computer restarts, and I have tried to read what comes up on the screen when it happens but its so quick, almost like someone just hit the reset button. Could these restarts be related to the PCI Device that isn't working properly? And if so, how do I find out what PCI Device it is that isn't working?

Edit: I enabled my onboard sound in BIOS, but am still not getting anything when I start up my computer. When I go to Volume Control I get a message pop up that says "There are no active mixers available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware." However, this doesn't help me much, since I have already done this and didn't see anything pertaining to mixers.

You might need to install the drivers for your onboard sound card. Right click my comp, go to properties, go to the hardware tab, and click device manager. Is there anything with a ! or an "X" on it?

If the drivers are not installed, you will need to go the the motherboard manufacturers site and download and install the drivers.

Try right clicking the sound icon in the system tray, click Sound, click playback, and right click your speakers and click "test" If you don't see any, right click in the space, and check "show disabled devices" and then right click the disabled device and click enable, and try testing it. This problem just happend with my friend and it turns out it wasn't enabled.
