Dear Friends,

As per the help I got from this forum, now I need to have a DOS bootable drive to update my BIOS.
I do not have a Floppy drive.
I got some help from my mother board manufacturer to create a bootable USB drive using HP USB formatting tool. When I try to format and make my USB pendrive bootable, the application refers to some path from where it should copy 'Dos bootable files' (Please refer to the picture).

I have Win XP SP 2 and I don't know where I find DOS files.

Is it possible to create such a DOS bootable from Win XP? If so kindly help me.

If this is not possible from Win XP, what is the next alternative way to create this kind of DOS Bootable USB driver.

Please help me.

Floppy drives are very cheap - that's the RIGHT way to do it. You can download a boot floppy image from bootdisk.com that's driver free, specifically for making a bios flashing boot floppy.

I have successfully done this, though the risk is higher then if it was from a floppy. Why are you updating your bios?

It took me a few tries to get the flash drive to boot, but if you just look around google, there are tons of how to guides,

Would a CD work if you emulated one as a floppy in Nero?

A floppy is the SAFEST way.

He is updating the bios to try to fix an issue in another thread.

Thanks every body for your guidance.

For your kind information, I am trying to reslove the issue I mentioned in the following thread.
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=187146. I was suggested from the ASRock technical support to update my BIOS.

My actual problem is not to find an option between the floppy drive or USB drive. I got to know how to make a USB bootable drive to boot from a utility from 'HP'. That is a good tool. But while creating the Bootable USB, it asks for the path of the 'Bootable' command. and as I am on Windows XP, I am not able to find the path for the Bootable files.

Now I need your help if there is any way to create bootable USB from Windows Xp?
(I can do this from Win 98 system but I checked many of my friends and nobody uses Win 98 now).

Please help me.

Thanks for everybodies help.

I got my problem solved. I found the following link, followed the steps--Bingo.......I could boot from my USB drive. Only extra setting I made is to change the Boot sequence on the BIOS to first boot from the USB.

Thank you very much for each and every contributor. In fact this would solve my other problem also mentioned in the earlier reply (my earlier post).

quick question, a usb floppy drive is bootable correct? im guessing you would have to change an option in bios for usb devices.

Depends on the Motherboard and Flash drive. Most, is not all, newer motherboards have the option. Same is true for flash drives.
