I just installed a new graphics card on my friends computer. It is a 8600 GT,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143114

I installed the new drivers on for the card, The card works good for a long while, then after a few hours, it will start getting a bunch of little horizontal lines on the screen kind of like and old TV set. anyone know what the problem is or how it can be corrected.

The computer specs are:

Pentium D processor 2.8ghz
1 GB ram
Intel mobo

Most likely overheating. Another possibility is a weak power supply.

Or bad drivers, I had a similar problem with bad drivers for my Intel graphics where it made horizontal lines come up across the screen with certain applications.

Try running something graphic intensive and if the computer shuts down then glc will be correct.

In fact just tell us what power supply he has.

Yeah I am pretty sure it may be the power supply, he has a 305w Power supply,

Even if it isn't the PSU I would suggest upgrading to around 450W of GOOD power for that card and overall system stability; check out the Power Supply thread to find the best brands.

Sounds like a Dell or a HP. That card is pushing that PSU pretty hard and neither system has decent cooling.

thank you for the help, I put a new 500w Power supply in, everything seems to be working fine so Far, hopefully it stays that way.

ok well the new powersupply didn't fix it, The problem is starting again, I even took a screen shot but the lines do not show up on the screen shot. The problem mainly starts while playing World of warcraft, then you can see the Lines on any window open

Bad or overheating video card - or bad drivers, try a different version.
