This is related to another thread of mine (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?p=1294421#post1294421) but I wanted to post this question in the appropriate forum.
Are there any appreciable differences between the following drives other than a couple milliseconds in seek time and different warranties?
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822136073)
Western Digital Caviar RE2 WD5000ABYS 500GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136143)
I can't find any benchmarks of either of these drives. I ended up with one of the Seagate 7200.10 drives with AAK firmware and the performance is very poor. Are either of these WD drives a good choice? I'm looking to buy something this weekend. I'm going to put the Seagate in an external enclosure.
