Question about DDR2 and DDR3

Is there a big difference? Sorta new to the computer tech world. Just wondering how big of a dfiference.

These days GDDR3 is a standard in Video Cards, from what i remember being told, Its main plus point is the ability to run its I/O bus at four times the speed of the memory cells it contains, which in turn contains higher bus speeds and higher peaks.

DDR3 also has increase chip capacities of 512 mebibit to 8 gibibit, allowing the max to now be 16GB.

DDR3 SDRAM Components:

* Introduction of asynchronous RESET pin
* Support of system level flight time compensation
* On-DIMM Mirror friendly DRAM pin out
* Introduction of CWL (CAS Write Latency) per speed bin
* On-die IO calibration engine
* READ and WRITE calibration

DDR3 Modules:

Advantages compared to DDR2

* Higher bandwidth performance increase (up to effective 1600 MHz)

Disadvantages compared to DDR2

* Commonly higher CAS Latency
* Generally costs more than equivalent DDR2 memory

I just realised that with the graphics cards your talking about GDDR ram? The differences between them are that GDDR3 runs at reduced heat consumption and higher speeds. This means all the components can benefit from getting information at a faster rate, all the internals like Pixel Shaders can get the information faster resulting in, better framerates.
