Hi Gang

Is it possible to take the info from a ATA drive and put it on a SATA drive. If so what is needed, and how is it done.??? Considering the SATA is large enough, and all that. I have 2 ATA drives, and am going to replace them with SATA drives. Don't want to loose all my info. I am using XP sp 2.

Does your motherboard have IDE and SATA connections? Easiest thing then is to just hook up both and copy the data over in Windows.

You can do a straight copy if it's a data drive, but not the OS drive. You will need a cloning application to do that one - such as Acronis True Image.

Yes this MOBO does have both. You say just hook up and copy the data over in Windows. Do you mean the back up in Windows.? Can you simply designate the giver and receiver.? And click do it.??? And this with one connected IDE and one SATA.?

The other OS is junk? or the other HDD?

If they are both hooked up in the computer, you can simply drag and drop data between the two. If you need an exact clone, you'll need backup software like glc suggested.

Ya I meant the other HD, it don't have a OS on it and all it has is junk stuff I don't want on my main drive.

Ya I have Acronis too. I don't care for it but maybe it will do this ok.

Boot with the Acronis CD and choose clone drive. It's very easy, it's not like making an image. I'd recommend you do that with both drives (one at a time of course).
