View Full Version : Windows on its own hdd?

I just wanted to ask opinion of others on if it would be a good or bad idea to take a 20gb hdd I have to just install windows on, and use my other hdd for storage. My thinking was to maybe make it easier if I had problems or corruptions with windows or spyware/adware/virus and such, to maybe not mess up my other stuff. I realize partitiioning and such but, it was just a thought. Is this a bad idea?

No it's an excellent idea and it can work well.
Some programs won't cooperate buy many will and it can help keep your data safe and make reformatting less of a chore.
But don't think it substitutes for back up.
Anything that "hits" the computer, say a power spike, will hit the storage drive as well and it won't stop many viruses and worms, if Windows knows the path so will they.

I have a quick question that I noticed earlier in the day, it doesn't belong in this forum however, but - well I guess I'll just post it in the correct thread... it's just I noticed a fan blade is missing on my cpu fan, and I'm not sure how to replace it... I have a picture of it I planned on attaching... didn't know if you might know anything about it. Anyway, like I said I'll repost in the other thread.

Just a little side thought, if the 20gb hdd is an old one (likely), Windows would be slower than on a new drive. You could use the other drive (if faster) for most stuff, then use the 20gb for the really important stuff.

you can replace the cpu fan pretty easy...you just need to know what size the fan is...they are measured in millimeters...

once you know you can get a new one...nexfan.com is a great place to get them...

It depends on the heatsink assembly - on some you should just replace the entire assembly, the fan is not easily replaceable by itself.
