I was all excited to build my new computer! It came in the mail, i put it all together, then turned it on...Nothing...i realized today that i pluged some PCI power input into a 12v input, well now it turns on, im getting more excited as i see the fans turn on, the CPU fan, the PSU fan and all the other ones. Then...on the screens, it says, no input, or something like that and then goes black. So i browsed this website some tonight and a couple minutes ago i took out a ram stick, powerd it on and i hear no beeps! I take them both out and then power it on and hear no beeps again! Does this mean i have a DOA motherboard!

Heres my components:

GA-P35-DS3R 775 GIGABYTE MOTHERBOARD
QUAD CORE 2.40 GHZ Q6600
Kingston HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card
500 W Stallion SERIES ROSEWILL PSU

First off dont panic. No beeps could be as simple as not having a case speaker hooked up. I dont know that Mobo so can not say if it has a speaker or not. Generally when building a computer we recommend using this procedure to eliminate grounding problems and just check core components.

Since your system seems to boot, but you get no video do you have a power connector on the video card that is not plugged in? Most newer video cards require that they be plugged directly into the PSU. If that is not the case then try the out of case build with just one stick of ram. Be sure to check that all power connectors are connected. The Mobo will have at least two (main power and cpu power) and the video card possibly a thrid. Make sure the cpu/heatsink is seated properly. When you take the Mobo out of case it is a good idea to flip it over and check that the 4 legs of the coller are all latched in. If all that checks out, set the mobo on the box it came in (or other non-conductive surface) and follow the instructions for an out of case boot up.

So i read the article about if your setting up an oustide system momentarily to find out whats wrong with the computer. I read if you have the wrong standoffs or something than your system might not work properly? I remember now when i was building my comp i put 2 extra standoffs in the wrong spot so now their under the mobo. Could this be my problem? Im going to remove those then try, if that doesnt work im going to try and do a temporary build outside.

Yes.Im going to remove those then try, if that doesnt work im going to try and do a temporary build outside.Since you have to take the motherboard out anyway, you might as well do the out of case troubleshooter.

Just making sure, when you say "YES" does that mean thats why i could not be having any display on my screens?

Yes, they can be the cause of your problem.

Like Cricket said, since you're going to have it outside the case anyway, try the setup with the bare minimum and see if it works.

Just making sure, when you say "YES" does that mean thats why i could not be having any display on my screens? The stray standoffs are making contact with the underside of your motherboard causing a short...this in turn will prevent your computer from booting up. It's a very common mistake by first time builders. Remove the extra standoffs.
