Just built a new computer and I have a Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU ATX 12V 2.0 500W Power Supply Unit. I RMA'd and found that it works. Now I am wondering if maybe my processor is the reason why my computer won't turn on at all and I haven't been able to yet.. I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Conroe 2.13GHz. My Motherboard is an ASUS P5K DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard.
My 24-pin is connected, the 4-pin CPU power connector is connected. The power switch is turned on on my PSU, push power button.. but no power, no fans start, just the light for the graphics card turns on.
I am new to building computers and I have spent so much time trying to figure this out today, its now past 3 am and I just give up... please help

OK, If I understand correctly, you built the computer and when it did not turn on you RMA'ed the PSU. You got a new one and it still will not work?
Have you tried this: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=168456
that will limit your problem to just the core components.
Re-check all your power leads. Re-check that your cpu is properly seated and that the heat sink is mounted correctly. when you take the MB out of the case check the back and be sure there 4 pegs are all the way through the MB and locked in. If the power is connected and the cpu/jheatsink is property installed you should get a light on your mobo that it is getting power at a minimum. I would suspect the mobo before the processor, but take the time to try the out of case build first and try to eliminate a short in the case.

make sure you used the standoffs and case MB isnt touching case, try the out of case build as above.

I did the out of board testing thing and the fans turn on for the video card and the cpu heat sink but only last a couple seconds. The power light also does turn on and it has been turning on when I turn the PSU on, it stays on as long as power is on the PSU. Nothing displays on the monitor, except after I do it it will pull up "no signal" screen. I checked the CPU heat sink and that it was all mounted correctly and that it was connected completely to the motherboard and it is. I also went and bought some silver thermal compound to place on the heatsink to make sure that isn't overheating or something.

ok i actually held the screwdriver on there too long and tahts why it would turn off.. okay i did the out of case and everything turned on correctly.. I will now install it back into the case.. i'm starting to think its the case wires that connect the power button to the motherboard..

check your standoffs and make sure that they are correctly placed. The most common in case problem is a short from an extra or miss-placed standoff. If you are sure the standoffs are all correct then install the MB and give it a try.
One way to check the power button is to switch it with the reset button. They are both just on/off switches so can trade places to help you determine if one is not working.

ok after a bunch of trial and error I found after using a multimeter that the electricity was transferring into the case quite a bit so I ended up putting cardboard paper under the mother board and found it helped a lot, then the screws i found was doing the same so I used rubber washers to put the motherboard in.. and it worked.. I found this quite unusual but I guess the power just wasn't transferring correctly when mounted on the case. Anyways, thanks, a lot of these tidbits helped in me coming to this.
