Essentially, there is no legal way to install any of Apple's operating systems onto a normal PC.

So basically you can install Vista or Windows XP on a MAC, but not the other way around? How is that legal? If you pay for the software, shouldn't you be able to use it as you please?!

OSX is essentially a tweaked version of a BSD Unix fork. It can be and has been hacked to run on a regular PC. It takes a real hack to pull it off, but it can be done. Why anybody would want to go the time and trouble is beyond me. As to its legality, I am sure Apple has a lot of proprietary code in OSX and language in its license intended to it impossible for you to legally reproduce or sell it. I don't see Apple coming to your house to rip a legally obtained copy of OSX off your PC. Again, why you would want to put that copy of OSX you acquired when you bought your Mac on a PC is between you and your creator. Or maybe you and Steve Jobs.

Here is something for Mac users to think about. You can dual boot Windows and OSX on your Intel based Mac. Doesn't that mean that Mac hardware is just as off the shelf as all the rest of the hardware in the world? If that is the case, why are you paying a premium for a Mac? It must be the software. It sure isn't the hardware. Or maybe it is just the chest thumping cache of bragging that you paid a lot to buy a Mac.

Because it's in the License agreement you agree to when you install. The OSX agreement states you cannot install the OS on a non-Apple labeled computer.

Drat. I was wondering whether or not it was possible to put OSX onto a PC ( since I love the OS of Macs, but not the price), and this has answered my question. Gah, I guess I'll just have to live with Linux.

EDIT: Wouldn't it be possible to exploit a loophole by somehow 'labeling' your parts Apple/ taking appart an old Mach and using some Apple Hardwar?
