Entry level multi purpose printer

Hi,

I might be getting a new printer. I need advice on a printer which can do the basic task - printing/scanning. I'm not a heavy user, but sometimes I do want to print photos on glossy paper etc.

Which printer do you recommend? Perhaps a Brother printer because I still have some ink left over.

The only cheapie multipurpose printers I care for are HP Officejets, but I'm seeing that they are following others' leads and separating the ink tanks and print heads now.
