Am ashamed to say this news made me quite excited, but it was certainly nice to delete around 3000 POP emails from Thunderbird and switch over to IMAP. Now I can access just about all of my emails in the same way on all of my computers, and I've been waiting to be able to do that for many, many years.

...just note that at the moment, you need to be running your Gmail account language in US English for the IMAP option to appear. When added to Thunderbird, it immediately downloaded all of my Gmail folders (junk, sent etc.) and synchronised everything nicely. It just 'works' :)
