Everything has been working fine on both my computers. Until last night. One of my computers blue screened last night with KERNEL_IN_PAGE_ERROR or something to that effect. Normally I figure it means that either something was corrupted in the paging file or that I've had the computer on for a long time and it should be rebooted (I tend to keep them on for about a week before I reboot them). So I rebooted it and suddenly I cannot gain network connectivity with it anymore. I have a router between the PCs and the cable modem and it's not responding to the pings or any requests from the PC. My other computer is able to connect just fine to the router and the net. I tried Wayne's Winsock fix program and it still doesn't connect. I looked at the NIC and lights are on, but I don't see any activity blinking (it's a simple generic NIC). I did try to have the PC ping itself and for some reason it worked (with localhost and its own IP address), so I tried using ipconfig/flushdns. Still not connecting. Would it be possible that suddenly the NIC stopped working? Seems unlikely to me, but then again computers do weird things sometimes. Any help or additional thoughts would be appreciated.

System specs:
Windows XP w/ SP2
C2D processor
2GB
more than enough HDD space

Try a different router port, try rebooting the router, try a different cable. Try reinstalling the NIC drivers.

GLC, I tried everything you mentioned and it's still not working. I guess my NIC is faulty, which is strange because this is a brand new mobo (only a couple of months old).

delikios, no, I'm unable to ping to that computer.

then it is probably a problem of the nic. There are a lot of chip pci ones out there to try out.
