This does not surprise me coming from Sony. This is just one more reason amongst many not to purchase their products. There is definitely something in the sashimi.

I'm not mad about Sony either. We brought a VAIO about 18 months ago and it's been awful for various boring reasons. I still hope to get a PS3 though because there are so many quality game titles such as Gran Turismo who will be releasing a game in a few months time. Other than that, no Sony products at all.

I would take the story to heart if there were more than one case posted on the internet... as it stands right now.. he said she said... personally, I have a Sony digital camera and a Sony home theater in a box set.. both two+ years old and working just fine.

I have never had a problem with Sony's customer support, probably because I have never had a problem with a Sony product. We have an old Sony 21" tv (10 years), a digital camera (2 years), a Walkman (3 years) and a 55" rear projection (<1 year). As well as a few ps1 and ps2 consoles. All working fine, as such I haven't yet experienced the poor customer service everyone seems to be getting.

Hmmm ...I guess there are no problems with their rootkits either.

Well, if you can explain to me how a "rootkit" got on my computer from my home theater system or from my memory card (software install not required)... or from liambl's TV's, walkman or playstations...fire away.

List some products in your home and I'm willing to bet that I can find some dissatisfaction somewhere which would be reason for you to rid yourself of the product and not purchase their brand anymore... when it's an "instance" thing, no reason to get worked up over it... when it's a repetitive and chronic thing, then fine, one should reconsider.

The whole point is how Sony treats it customers....that is MY problem with them...not how this or that Sony product has always worked well for someone else.

Secret root kits, proprietary this and that, and telling someone to go away because there is too much dust in their game console is a reflection of this companies arrogant culture.

HAL9000
11-11-2007, 03:24 PM
But that is the point.. this is ONE case of he said, she said... is there even any validation to this claim? I myself believe I have been treated (issue of topic here) quite well as my products perform as expected with no problems. Now if one can show me multiple instances of say warranty being voided for dust, then yes, I think we have an issue with performance and treatment.

Sony screwed a customer by saying there is too much dust in his console...not because he took a sledge hammer to the case. That is exactly their problem...how they screw their customers. And that IS the point... The point is not that they do make products that work....usually.

OK...ignore my statement for your convenience.... you read ONE case on the internet.. It MUST be true

OK...ignore my statement for your convenience.... you read ONE case on the internet.. It MUST be true

There are plenty of cases....root kits in tens of thousands of computers. Products with proprietary crap...such as proprietary batteries in the millions...and now PS3's that are overheating and burning up.

Sony's corporate culture of arrogance is not one isolated case.

OK... another case of warranty on a PS3 being declined due to dust please.

they did the same thing with the ps2 , they also had a problem with dust . me and a friend pulled a ps2 out of a garbage can disassembled it blew the dust out and it ran fine .

i took apart my 6 year old xbox , it had less dust then my computer after a year .

to me that sounds like a design flaw , it should ether have filters or not collect dust .

Saying an item should not collect dust is like saying that the filters shouldn't get dirty.... a car engine shouldn't suck in dust either... since it needs a filter, must be a design flaw

Maybe not a design flaw, but certainly poor design.

Uhh... I don't get it with you guys... dust is in the air, you flow air through it... guess what gets inside it.... not pumpkins... dust!

Since when does this person know about design flaws? Anything collects Dust.

THere are many factors in place... I have two computers that are in identical cases, both located in the basement, and both located in close proximity to a heating vent if anyone thinks that matters... one collects dust twice as fast as the other... being they are identical cases... is one flawed? Would anyone like to come up with the explanation... it's quite simple really and proves there are other factors in play.

I find it amazing how the PS3 could have gained so much dust...inside.
Hate to know where the PS3 had been placed.

EDIT: Well, now I read the article.
Sony dicked him over well. Grats sony.

Though, will always love my PS3.

I am not a big fan of Sony much anymore either....

Had to service some Laptop and the customers didnt have the rescource CD and i couldnt find the drivers on the net so a call to Sony to find how to get the drivers...

Techsupport wanted to charge a basic rate of 25.0 for every driver needed....WHAT?

I was in no going to pay for a driver that was already paid for by the customer when the unit was purchased....

Lucky I found someone with a copy of the rescource CD so I could get the images I needed...I have also heard horror stories about Sony and their stupid idea and or tactics....

I used to like there products....(actually still do) but if it needs suport it's gone....

I am so glad I didnt buy one of those PS3's.....I almost did...if this would have happened to me I would be fuming.....

The only reason I didnt is because of cost and size....I was looking for a 60gig unit as the HD is hardware encoded via onboard chip....as where the 80gig units are software encoded...

I ended up with a Wii....much happier with my choice....well atleast the kids are...;)

One is sitting above carpet, one is sitting above tile, the one above carpet gets dusty way faster than the one above tile.

Hard to refute the audio (http://consumerist.com/consumer/audio/sony-csr-what-no-dust-doesnt-void-your-ps3-warranty-321288.php) of the conversation with Sony Tech Support. Nice trick for recording the call.

Damn. It does really sound like he's getting the short end.

I think at that time I would Demand a full refund for the purchase of the product....

I'm not going to argue that audio is available... what everyone overlooks is one person's claim is gospel.... I deal with 100-140 customers per day... here's a news flash... some customers actually lie.... yes, can you believe it... they actually lie to make their story better and get what they want. As I have been rather repetitive about here, is we have a solitary incident about warranty being voided due to dust collection and the only "evidence" from either side is he said she said. Until there is more than one solitary case of a PS3 warranty being declined due to dust in it.... I'm sorry, unlike the rest, I can't believe it just because it's on the internet.

Actually, having listened to the recording, how do we know that the call isn't a hoax... it probably is legit, but really, a hardcore anti-company x person would go to these extremes to make a point.

I think it's wonderful that everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon for the little guy... but really, shouldn't you have more evidence than an internet posting before claiming somebody is guilty? If I were in court and was just told this guy has this claim, this person has this counter claim, I have no evidence to support either claim... how can I place judgement? RIGHT... it was on the internet...

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying anything about Sony and their customer service. And up untill that recording I was definately saying it's a he say she say thing. But I do believe in this case, at least from that one singel recording, it sounds like they are doing him wrong.

On the same token, I can see how if it was really that much dust, they would consider it neglect.

Guess this will play out for the masses to watch and be entertained. (The geks version of a soap opera.)

I really can't place any merit on any of this until there is evidence that this has happened to more than one PS3 owner and/or it goes to court and everything gets pulled into the open.
