Since this is a Mac area, is it okay if I ask here?

I love to grab one of those older Mac PCs, which model or which system is perfectly suitable for internet usage?

And also, the Macs around in late 90s and 2000s have CRTs embedded - do they have seperate versions? :)

You'll want something G4 processor or more recent I think - there are definitely some cheapie G4 cubes on ebay and probably elsewhere that might suit you.

Yep - that's why we created this forum.

Same rule as PC's when it comes to usage - the older it gets, the slower it is obviously. PPC G3 and above should be sufficient for most light uses today.

Not sure what you mean by separate versions - Apple has released several Macintosh's that have the CRT and system in one chassis.

If you plan on using any newer OS, ie OS X Leopard you'll need to pay attention to the system requirements. Leopard requires a G4 867mhz or newer processor. It won't install on anything older. If leopard doesn't matter to you I would look for at least a 700mhz G3 or better. The G3 is painfully slow by todays standards but for basic web surfing, email etc it will get the job done.

A quicksilver powermac would be a good choice, or any of the white ibooks.

My advice is to not bother with a G3 with OS X of any kind. G4 cube or G4 mac mini or a cheap powerbook. If you want an old G3/266 "Beige' board I'd be happy to send you one for shipping if my sister hasn't thrown them out yet. I just looked at the prices for some of these old Macs, the resale value seems somewhat high in some cases... maybe because they're kind of a niche market.
