I was having issues last night with losing my internet connection. The only way to get it back was reset my Linksys NR041 router. I finally called Linksys about this, and was advised to get a new router since mine was no longer under warrantee (basically they wouold not help me since it was a little older and wanted me to spend some more money on another of their products, which they were more than happy to recommend).

Anyway, I was headed to the store and got a Linksys BEFSR41 router.

My internet connection seems fine now with the old router, making me think it was just something else causing my problems... so...

Will this new router give me better performance than my old one? I never opened it yet and will gladly return it if it is not needed.

Were you able to isolate the problem to the router? In other words, have you tried a direct-connect to the modem? Otherwise, have you attempted to connect after cycling (ie. physically powering on and off) the unit?

Connecting the modem directly to the computer worked fine, and I did power cycling as well to no avail...

Like I said all seems fine now with the old router...

The NR041 is a dirt cheap router. The BEFSR41 is a lot better. I recommend you reboot the router at least once a month.
