New eggs haveing server issues so I can't list the other parts such as burner, keyboard, mouse, os. So far cost is $1541.39 far less than the dell he wanted, which by the way was faaaaar more than what he needs and cost over $5GS So what do you think suggestions is welcome...

I can't seem to play nice with newegg right now.

The ram you chose is fine. You might want to look into just get the plain xms 800 and not the one with the heat thing on it. Might save some money, if not, then keep that one.

Once I can get newegg to work for me, i'll look at the other parts.

Could drop the video card down to a 8600GT, save a couple hundred bucks. I would think that the 8600GT would more horsepower than the In-laws would ever use.
I would check with the in-laws as to what might their stlye for a case they would like, the Antec is a quailty case but the Silver may be a bit much.

Thanks flanzig more than likely will change the video card.. He is suppose to log in and check out the parts i have chosen..Will be making adjustments later on today..Right now typing this from the loacl library..

Just depends what is more important lots of RAM, higher quality RAM, a good video card, lots of storage space, or best processor. I think you should put together some examples of possible solutions. I would just use the Corsair Value Select RAM. Another idea may be the 64 bit OS and 4 gigs of Corsair Value Select. Maybe a Quad core Processor might be better. Depends what they want. If you go with a lesser rated Video card a Quad may help the speed a bit. One method is to pick the Video card and build the computer around that.

The Asus P5K SE does not have a very good chipset heat sink. The P5K has a copper one.

I am not a big fan of the really large hard drives. I would rather split up the hard drives into two hard drives and put all the files for mass storage on a second drive. $200 for a hard drive is an awful lot. It just means you can lose a lot of data really fast. However Seagate makes another large hard drive for a few dollars more like this:

Seagate SV35.2 750GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive. They claim you can write multiple streams of data at once to this drive. Dont really know how that works. They suggest it would be good for writing two streams of multimedia like from 2 video cameras. I wander if this model is faster than the other drive. Still one large drive means all of the data is lost at once. For some people $200.00 for a hard drive may not be too much. If you go with a 500 gb drive you can spend the other hunded on the video card. They can always add a second drive later. 2 500 gb drives may be a better deal but be just slightly more; but it would computed to less $$ per GB.

Where I'm getting confused is there is a lot of P5K it seems.. Which would I use for this set up?He wanted two large hard drives. He wanted a 1TB put there expensive so I figured I'd get him two smaller ones say 250 like he has now but sata instead of ide.. I never used a sata optical so which board would support the two hd and two opticals.. I'm going to make a few changes here in a minute, then will post what I have.. It is still up to him, but he said he usually likes my judgement..

The P5k-SE can support 4 sata drives. The next cheapest alternative if you don't like that one, and without onboard video would be the P5K. That board is great. I have it in my build and like it.

If you drop down the video card, you could drop down the psu too. As it is, it's more then you need.

EDIT: Once you decide on the video card, then you would be able to better determine the psu. But that 520hx is good for any single card you would get. So you could keep that.

Just added the P5K-SE he wanted two burners like he has now incase one goes south, he will still have a back up.. Without a case the price is now $1339.99 $500 less than the first list. This is also far less than he paid for his current rig 5yrs ago around $4000. He isn't in the best of health, so besides his new tv his computer is his only enjoyment, and will most likely be his last.. So why not let him have the best that he can get, without breaking the bank (wife) :)

If you want good graphics performance without spending too much, ATi's new Radeon HD 3870 is a good performer, around the 8800GT, and costs quite a bit less, uses less power and is quieter.

Ok made some final changes to this all with the inlaws approval. He plans on purchasing parts tommorow or tuesday.. Also added in some expensive speakers, but the inlaw likes them and really wants them as well.. My only question would be, which sound card if any would work well with these speakers? I read one review as to the Bozz 5 speaker system, that it needs lots of power to run.. Should the 520 be enough? I never heard any complaints that a psu was not enought to handle a set of speakers.. So for the sake of it I choose the 3 speaker set instead.. Price before shipping and sound card is $1620.88 He is allowing $3000 so this is far less than he is allowing..

I think the BOSE are overrated and you probably could save some and go with Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. As far as sound card goes, the on-board will work but a dedicated sound card would help but I'm not sure what to recommend, may look at the X-Fi series. The speakers won't be using the Power supply so no worries there.

If you're allowed to spend some more and he enjoys gaming and will play the newer games, then look into upping the video card.

Other then that, it looks like a nice build.
