Hey everyone thanks in advance for your help...

I just ordered everything from NewEgg and I'm having problems with my new build.
It's been a few years since I built my last computer so you could say that i"m a noob.

The problem is that everything will power on for less than 1 second before it shuts off and the CPU fan and all the other fans don't even have the chance to go up to full speed. Perhaps my PSU is faulty? I thought I had a nice one...

The LED light on my mobo is on so it seems as if power is going through. Here are my specs.

AMD X2 6400 processor, ASUS M2N SLI Deluxe mobo, EVGA 8800GTS 640 video, and 2G Corsair 800 memory sticks, OCZ GameXstream 700W PSU.

Please help!!

Try this out of case troubleshooter (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409) to determine if the motherboard is shorting to the case. You must remove the motherboard from the case to do this.

Double check that the heatsink is installed properly and making full contact with the CPU heatspreader...what you're seeing sounds like a shutdown due to overheating.

Ok so I removed all the components and realized my case was being shorted....
How do I fix this problem?

THanks!!

Do you have standoffs in place before mounting the motherboard? You need them instead of screwing the board directly to the back of the case. They look like this: http://www.evercase.co.uk/images/Accessories/MotherboardStanOff2.jpg and should have come with your case.

You also have to make sure they are only installed where there are holes in the motherboard, otherwise they will short it out.
