My new Build

Hey Guys,

I am building a new computer with the following specs. I am wondering, is this PSU powerful enough to support my parts, and then overclock the E6600 to 2.8 Ghz or 3.0 Ghz?

FSP 450 Watt
Core 2 Duo E6600
7800GTX
Corsair XMS2 2GB
Asus P5K-E
Antec P180 Case
Soundcard
ARTIC Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

I would up the PSU to at least a 500w from a quailty brand.
Just a side note, the 7800GTX is a bit dated, unless your getting a great deal on it would think about the 8600 series video card.

actually the 7800GTX is better than an 8600 Series.

However the 7800GTX costs approx $300. SO if you want a graphics card in that price range, consider an 8800GT. There still out of stock but should come back in stock soon

Also the E6600 is like $250 at 2.4ghz I think it is. There IS a new cheaper and faster processor available.
The C2D E6750 that's 2.66GHZ and is only $195.

Yea I would consider falling back to probably a more powerful PSU than 450 Watts.

Haha yeah, im not paying for the E6600, and the 7800GTX my friend is giving to me, he doesn't want it, so he just simply giving. haha hes a funny guy. Alright so 450 to support this build? or to support it with an overclock?

I'd gor for a 500W simply for upgrade ability and headroom.

Unless your fixed with th P180, take a look at the Antec Sonata III it comes with a good 500W PSU too. It's great :)

I just ordered the antec true trio power 550 watts.. only 60 bucks on newegg! free shipping + Mail in Rebate!

So, with this powersupply, core 2 duo 6750 (turns out I get to keep it), P5K-E, 2 GB Corsair XMS2, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, DVD RW, and all those peripherals...

Will I be able to overclock my 6750 to 3.0 Ghz? I already have a post in the overclocking section, just want to make sure if it will be stable it i do.

Yup you should be able to get it to 3.0GHz no problem! Infact you might be able to get it close to 4 if you push.

Correctly me if I am wrong, but while I was researching my new build I learned that the reason the E6750 is cheaper is that the multiplier on it is the same as the E6400. The E6600 is more expensive because demand for the E6600 is higher. It seems the E6600 is a better overclocker. Besides for about fifty dollars more you are getting into the Q6600, it may be more future proof and more impressive to overclock.
