I really need some help/opinions. I put in the DVD-rom, HDD, CPU/Heatsink (for some reason w/ the intel heatsink, i could not for the life of me get the two back 'legs' to snap in, only the two in the front) Graphics Card, Memory, without any problems. Hooked all of the connectors into the motherboard and it still wouldn't power. So then I took out the connectors to the HDD and DVD drive, and only left 1 memory stick, the graphics card, the cpu, and the connects from the PSU attached to the motherboard, but still nothing happened.

I think I had the power led/ pws/reset/ connectors from the case in the motherboard correctly, but if I did wouldn't a small led light up on the motherboard, once the power supply is switched on? Because no matter what, I never even got a led to light.

I'm guessing the PSU isn't dead/defected because it has a blue led on it, and it would light up when I turned it on, but still no fans spinning anywhere on the psu/cpu/ inside the case, so it would all boil down to the motherboard being DOA, right?

My PC Specs are below.

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard Retail
Processor: Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping Kentsfield 2.40GHz 8MB L2 LGA 775
PSU: Apex 600W ATX12V Ver 2.2 & EPS12V AC Power Supply 600 W Ball Bearing ATX 12V
Graphics Card: POWERCOLOR Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCIx16
Memory: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
DVDROM: DVD+RW: LITE-ON LH-20A1L-06 20X DVD±R Dual Layer + DVD-RAM SATA Black OEM
HardDrive: WDCSE16 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s OEM WD5000AAKS

Make sure it's out of the case for that.

Also, you need to make sure all 4 corners of the heatsink are snapped in.

Well I've already put the motherboard back in it's original box and requested an RMA so I won't be able to do that. Can you just confirm that when a motherboard is connected properly/ not doa, a small led on the board should light once the PSU switch is turned on?

You should meticulously go through all of your wire hookups with another set of eyes if you could. I just finished my first build a few months ago, and when I first tried to boot it, it wouldn't start. So I went over it with my dad checking off all the wires, and we found that I had mixed up a CPU fan wire and the wire that goes from the case to the motherboard that is the power button power. It could definitely be that a wire is connected wrong.

Also, how old is that mainboard? If it's not new it definitely could be the defective part of your computer.

The motherboard is brand new, everything is. It was just delivered on Tuesday. When it wouldn't power up the first time I went through and checked the wires, re-plugged them too, it seemed like everything was into place..but I don't know, that's why I'm assuming something is wrong with the motherboard.

I have never heard of that PSu brand, nor is it on the PSU recommendation here. I'm guessing it's low quality and could very well be the source of you problem. I would RMA that for a good brand before the motherboard. It's very unlikely that a faulty motherboard make pc totally unable to turn on, it merely connects the power switch to the PSU main connector with a copper trace, therefore rare for there to be any problems with this.

Ahh. I already sent the motherboard back this morning before reading your post. Are you saying that even though the blue led lights up in the PSU when switched on, it could still very well be defected/broken? What a waste of shipping if the mobo wasn't the real problem.. :(

We can't tell now. Only thing to do is wait till you try the build again.

When you get the replacement part, first try building it like it says in that link I provided earlier. That way you'll know if everything is working, and if not, just post back in this thread.

Ok, sorry for all of the questions, but the PSU comment concerned me - so I went into one of my other computers (socket 478), removed the 20pin connector, connected the 600w apex psu into the mobo from outside of the case, and sure enough when I hit the power switch in the back, motherboard lights up, computer powers on...BUT...it seriously sounded like a lawn mower once I turned on my pc so I turned it off immediately, I mean it was really loud. Any idea why?

I'm thinking I made the right decision in sending my mobo back for an exchange because the PSU obviously works, but its EXTREMELY LOUD....could it be because nothing else was hooked up to the PSU? Just strictly the (20)4pin main connector to the mobo.

edit: Umm I think my PSU just died, I switched it back on one last time, but now it makes the light on my motherboard blink every 5 seconds, and the led on the psu lights, then goes out, and the fan will spin like once then stop...wow this sucks.
