Hey everyone i am in need of some help. I have 5 computers here and they are all connected to the d-link extreme wireless n router. My router was always working fine untill now..... Sometimes when im playing online games and using xfire and high bandwhich stuff i notice that my router just goes on and off by itself and that drops my internet connection. The router goes off for like 2 sec and then the activity lights start flashing again. It's really annoying while im playing games and talking to friends. But this only happens when a lot of bandwhich goes through. But i never had a problem before so i don't know now.... Fireware was already updated to latest one on it. I mean i really doubt that im overloading the router because its a gigabyte switch and i doubt with all the stuff i got running go over a gigabyte of bandwhich...... All i was running was counter strike source, xfire, and msn on one computer. Other computers are just browsing the web.

Anyone? Thanks a lot :)

Are you sure it's the router? Have you tried connecting the computer straight to the modem to make sure?

Have you tried resetting the router?

Hey shadowpr. Yes im 100% sure its the router because when the internet drops its not only on my main computer. All the other computers lose internet also including the wireless laptops. Also i can actually see ALL the activity lights just go off on the router so thats another hint that leads to it being the router. And i tried resetting the router so many times nothing seems to be helping? Is this a known problem with d-link routers?

And by the way my router isnt connected to the internet. Im using the router as a gigabyte switch which is connected to an internet gateway. Then the gateway is connected to another linksys router which is connected to my main internet line. I can tell you know that the problem is not my gateway or linksys router because when i lose connection the internet on the gateway which is connected to the linksys still works. All computers on the d-link don't.

Get rid of it and buy a gigabit switch. They are plenty cheap enough these days. Neutering a router and using it as a switch is a mickey mouse way of doing things.

Don't think so, reread the op's last post.

And by the way my router isnt connected to the internet. Im using the router as a gigabyte switch

Glc has the definite answer, imo.;)

You have too many levels of routing. Your Linksys should be the only gateway, and all devices connected directly to it or through an uplinked switch.
