I had a MAG monitor, 17", which just stopped working. I would like to replace it with at least a 19" screen. I need advice on which monitor to buy.

I don't know whether to buy a Widescreen Monitor or a regular. I use the computer a lot, but I don't do games. I mainly browse the internet and do e-mails.

Has anyone had experience with Liteon LCD-T19BAHW, or BenQ FP 93GX,or Benq FP92W, or Benq FP202W?

Other possibilities are LGL196WTQ or LG L1900R, and MAG LB2006W

Any comments on the above models or recommendations for other models in the 19" - 21" size are welcome.

I wouldn't bother going wide without games or movies. The extra screen real estate is nice, but it doesn't sound like you need it.

I will attest to LG monitors. Great quality, super sharp picture. There might be an LCD buyers guide out shortly on the site, if you can afford to hold off for a few days.

I disagree. Widescreen is much more visual pleasing regardless of what you are using it for. I'm willing to bet that 99% of widescreen users don't regret switching. I would suggest getting widescreen.

Has anyone heard of Liteon monitors?

How important is contrast? Is 1:700 good enough?

Is 5ms response good enough?

In the lower price ranges, I've had good luck with BenQ. 19" widescreens are the best bang for the buck right now. Another decent low price brand is Hanns-G.

But, can anyone tell me if contrast ratio of 1:700 is sufficient? (That is what the Benq 93GCX has) Or does it mean anything at all?

Any ratio could technically be sufficient, but 700:1 is comparatively low. It is the measure between the brightest bright and the darkest dark. The bigger the number, the richer the colors, the deeper the blacks and the brighter the whites.

It also depends exactly how it's measured. *ANY* modern LCD has sufficient contrast for anyone except the very fussy.
