If you had vista 64, you would probably know it.
To verify, go to system properties and look at what it says for system type.
If it doesn't say 64 bit operating system, then you have the 32 bit one and should download x86.
You might be better off just manually tweaking vista for startup and shut down times though.

Let's work on one at a time. First to speed start up, the easiest thing to do is to stop any unneccessary programs from starting up with windows.
go to the start menu, and choose run. type in msconfig
Then go to the tab labeled start up and unchech any programs that you know you don't need.

yes i eliminate some things in starup..but in vista i don't know what it should be there...there are lik 25 things ckeck ........in xp-pro i only have 3 things in startup.......
..what about the shutdown...how can this improve manually.............it takes like 3 minutes and a half

I think java is more required for websites then anything else.
I know I have it installed, but I don't have it as starting automatically.
