I just bought an HP dv6500t laptop with Vista Home Premium. I was reading an article in PCWorld that Home Premium and Home Basic lack this feature (Shadow Copy) but saves the data anyway wasting disk space and CPU cycles. Well, not wanting to waste either of the just mentioned, I started to follow their instructions to turn this feature off but that means shutting off system restore. So is Shadow Copy and System Restore the same thing or is turning off System Restore the only way to stop Shadow Copy from running since Home Premium can't access the feature. I've done some research on the Vista Web site but didn't get the answer I was looking for. Thanks for the help.

Shadow copy & system restore aren't the same thing, but it's one of those IDIOTIC things that Vista has done in the split into those crippled sub-versions. It was first brought up here in April: http://pcpitstop.com/news/rob/rcheng0704.asp
Addendum - if you recall the reports of Vista SP1 being slower than XP SP3 - betas .. Shadow Copy was still cited as the most compelling reason: http://pcworld.co.nz/pcworld/pcw.nsf/feature/1FE803ADF0486D06CC2573990069A75D

The pcpitstop article was interesting reading, thanks. I remember reading the PCWorld article. Well, really don't want to disable system restore so I guess I'll just delete restore points more often to save some hard drive space. Thanks again.

We'll have to wait and see if an SP finally deals with it.
