i am on a windows xp professional sp2, i go start -> gpedit.msc the i get "windows cannot find gpedit.msc. mkae sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file..."
i could be wrong but doesn't xp professional come with gpedit :confused: ? if not i just want to edit the security policy.
any help plz :)

Yes, it does. It should be in your windows\system32 directory. Also, check your PATH statement: it could be too long or corrupt.

hmmm that's weird it's not in windows\system32... and what do u mean by PATH statement?

The PATH statement tells Windows where to look for things. Sometimes programs will mess it up. However, if it's not in the right directory, PATH won't find it. Do you have your system setup to show system / hidden files?

i dont think it should matter but this comp hasn't had windows updates since ms validation upgrade..

If you just need the file re-copied, you can get it off of your XP Pro CD. Set your BIOS to boot from the CD and go into the Recovery Console and type

expand D:\i386\gpedit.ms_ c:\windows\system32\gpedit.msc

NOTE: There's a space between the word "expand" and the D:, and you need to change the D: to whatever the letter of your drive is that the XP CD is in. There's also a space between that "_" mark and the C: too. Everything else though is no spaces.

Out of curiosity is this a legal copy of Windows? Do you have a license for this installation?

my dad had a friend... build it for him before ms validation tool the guy just used the same image over and over again to save money.. i geuss
