Replacing hard drive...

My original SATA HD (in my sig) has been making a weird scratching sound on power-up lately, and I think I should plan on replacing it soon. I've been saving partition images on an external eSATA HD (Seagate 7200.10 320gb). My question is, if I just use my Apricorn backup software to clone my internal HD to a new one, will it matter what brand, capacity, or model the new HD is? If it doesn't matter, could I clone my data to my external drive and then install it as the internal?

I use Apricorn EZ-Gig to clone drives all the time. It's an OEM version of Acronis True Image. Yes, you can even clone to the external then remove it from the housing and install it internally, but installing it internally first will make for a much faster clone job. I highly recommend you boot with the CD to do the clone, don't do it in Windows. Cloning an 80 to a 320 should not be a problem.
