32 MB cache??

as i was going to buy some 7200.10 with 16MB cache and for about £3 more i can get a 32Mb cache version of the 500MB seagate drive.

how far will these cache buffers go can we expect 64MB soon? surely larger they get the less the increase will notice?

does anyone think the 32MB will actual make a difference over the 16MB?

Since 16 megs is a nice improvment over 2 megs - one would think more is better. Alot of the benefits in the larger cache is how you use the pc...Opening and closing the same files on a regular basis is where you'll notice the nano second or two gain in performance.

If the difference is only £3, by all means jump on it. Larger cache is worth it, especially on larger drives. The hard drive cache access speeds are substantially faster than the hard drive access speeds itself - the more you can place in it the better. To my knowledge, 32MB is a fairly new cache capacity - I wouldn't expect 64MB to be in any of the mid-range capacity drives for a while.
