Hi all,
My current issue is very weird. My current computer's windows xp, hangs on load. The catch is this, i have tried reinstalling and it still hangs. I can boot into windows' safe mode no problems. I have tried reformatting the whole drive and still no luck. The linux partition on it works no problem, so I am thinking it is not a hardware issue. Even though I have checked and reseated the ram, video card, hard drives and optical drives. With the windows types I have tried the x86 and x64, but both do the same thing. Any ideas on this? The computer in question if the Core 2 Quad in my sig.

Does this happen with just Windows installed, nothing else (programs and device drivers)? Or do you already have the drivers installed?

Have you tried booting up with the optical drive(s) disconnected yet?

No drivers are installed yet. It hangs on the first boot after finishing the install. Yes I have tried disconnecting the optical drives. I recent upgraded one of the IDE drives to a sata. do that was one of my first ideas :)

Quick update on my trouble shooting. I took out everything but the basics of the computer. I kept in the optical drives, hdd, cpu and gpu. I did a reinstall at this point using a ps/2 mouse and keyboard. I turned off all onboard devices such as the sound, network, and usb. The system still locks up on standard boot. I then went into the safe mode and turned off all but the core services. This still allowed the system to lock up.
I believe the system is locking up before the windows' usb drivers loads. I have a g15 keyboard and a razer copperhead mouse. Both of these turn off during load and remain off.

Update
I cleared the CMOS on the computer and then booted the computer with no optical drives and windows booted cleanly. I then tried with my SATA dvd drive and once again it booted cleanly. Once I attached the IDE dvd drive, windows failed to boot. I changed the jumper setting from Cable Select to Master and the computer booted into windows cleanly.
