New build
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 rev 2 has 8 SATA 3gb convectors, 6 off an Intel ICH9, and the other two off a separate Gigabyte controller. Wondering what the reasoning is behind that set up. They are color-coded different from the Intel connectors. I have an External SATO Bracket that came with the board that I will probably hook up soon. Thought about connecting that to the Gigabyte controller but would like to know a little more about it.
I presently have one Hard drive on this rig. Room for 5 internal and 2 externals. Thinking about adding one eSATA and one internal
Comments and explanations please.
Thank you

The ICH9 supports 6 SATA ports. It does not support IDE, so all the board manufacturers, including Intel, are using a controller made by JMicron to add more than 6 SATA ports and IDE.
