Sis's laptop is using it and I just want to know if it is any good? pretty alien brand to me.

I've heard it can be a little difficult for those less-than-tech-savvy folk to use, but have never tried it myself.

Sis's laptop is using it and I just want to know if it is any good? pretty alien brand to me.Sygate was popular a few years ago (especially around the time Zone Alarm was having all their problems) along with Kerio and Tiny (not sure if either of these are around anymore). I used Sygate and Kerio and found both to do what they were supposed to do, but then the free versions disappeared and I stopped using them. Now that I'm using WinXP I just use the WinXP SP2 firewall.

I stopped using sygate a while back since I found it tended to cause issues (ie, block all traffic and corrupt the TCP/IP stack). But, I haven't tried them again in a good while so they've probably worked out their issues.

Right now, I'm using an older version of kerio from before they were bought out by sunbelt. I just checked their website now, and it appears the end-user firewall has been phased out.

From what I hear, Zone Alarm is fine now, and XP SP2's firewall is adequite, but doesn't operate quite like other firewall tools.

Zone Alarm has been OK for a while now. I wonder if the problem are related to their take over by Check Point... It was about that time they had some problems.

Well, sis' laptop is using a free version I think. I guess it is good to know that it is ok then.

ALso, any of you try Comodo Free Personal Firewall yet? It is pretty new and I am curious to try too, but just want other opinion before venturing.

I understand that Comodo is actually pretty good. It got a PC Magazine Editor's Choice Award (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2704,1969225,00.asp).

I've heard good things about it as well here in the Forums.
