Discovering new hardware`

So i got a zune for christmas, and its really cool and all except my desktop won't recognize it.
It goes about the standard fare, installing new hardware bla bla bla, but then it tells me that it cant install the software because the operation has timed out. I've tried everything I can think of, uninstalling, installing, I know its not the zune, so whats going on?

Have you tried to click the instal file and choose run as administrator?

I turned that off so it doesn't matter... I cant remember what it was called but there are no more administrator problems
