Vista or XP?

What’s better Vista or XP? I'm building a PC and I’m going to use it for school and gaming but I was looking for a good OS. I hear a lot of things about Vista but I don’t know I like my XP but don’t know what’s better? Really I just want to know if Vista is worth buying...:confused:

I'm waiting until Vista has a few Service Packs released to clear up the bugs. It's also experienced a lag in getting proper drivers out for everything. I've read in MaximumPC that XP is for the most part faster in all facets of gaming. Unless you have a specific reason for getting Vista, I'd wait a bit.

I disagree. My Vista is working with out problems for 6 months now. I has many problems with ME and none so far with Vista. Since the OP said they were building new I highly doubt drivers will be an issue. I comes down to personal choice. There are both just as stable as each other but Vista lack the widespread compatibility due to it's youth.

It's not happening for my customers and I don't think it's "youth".
I've reverted too many systems to XP to think it's easily fixable either.

I disagree as well... I've been using Vista Business as my only OS for about 4 months and have 0 complaints.

Vista is the next generation of MS OS's. Most resistance I've seen is just the users saying "it wasn't like this before". Users going from 98 to 2000 said the _exact_ same thing.

Remember, 2000 was initially not adopted well by 95/98 users.

The only way to repair a mistake is to first admit you made one but I'm not answering to shareholders or a Board of Directors so I can say that.
I think the guys at Redmond truly messed up with this one ( No I don't think it's going to kill them.).
It's like what they did with ME but that one was a true transition attempt ( and why they didn't think that through I don't know. XP was released the next year. ) but this one was supposed to be a real jump and just didn't make it.

I note they've announced Windows 7 for 2009.

Windows 2000 was not offered as an upgrade from 95/98, it was to replace NT4. Yes, 2000 was rocky till it had a couple service packs but Vista is just not showing much promise, it's too complicated behind the pretty face.

If you like XP, then there is no compelling reason to change or spend the extra money for something that has proven to be slower.

Historically, new Windows versions are finally debugged, well supported, and stable enough for me to recommend them right about the time that they are replaced by the next version. I had no use for XP for quite a while after release. I still run 2000 on my desktop and laptop, but if I had to, I'd put XP on them. I was not saying the same thing a couple of years ago. In my opinion, Vista has a long way to go.
