Which package to choose with new PC?

I'm buying a new Dell and have my choice of protection packages. They all come with a 15-month subscription for the price of the computer, so I figure I might as well take advantage of them. Which should I choose...Norton, McAfee, or Trend Micro?

PS...I currently use AVG and Ad-Aware and think they are great, so I know that "Don't choose any of them" is probably the preferred answer around here, but assume that I am going to select one of the three which come free with the computer.

if you want to opt for a pay suite go with Norton, if will give you decent protection. If its paid for why not. On a brand new Dell machine Norton will not slow it down at all. Make sure you read the help files to assist you with making the firewall play nice with your home network.

Honestly, none of them. I still don't trust Norton. NOD32 is a cheap pay-for service, as is Kaspersky. Both work incredibly well. Aside from that, stick with free stuff! AVG, avast!, Spybot...all are good and free.

Some don't trust any of the three but I'm running NIS 2008 and have no complaints at all. If you are getting it free, I would go with Norton. I know when I bought my HP desktop and laptop on line they came bundled with Norton but they weren't free. Is it possible since you already use AVG that Dell might lower the price if you tell them you don't any of the three?

Yuk, Trend Micro is awful. It's detection rates are on par with old Norton and McAfee. As, usnavyretired states the new Norton 2008 is a vast improvement over the older versions - I've tested it myself and it detected a lot more malware infected sites than 2007 and uses less resources.

If you can make sure that is in fact Norton '08 then that would be an OK route, if not, then Trend.
