Here's the situation. I have a computer running xp with only 256mb ram. I've ordered a total of 1gb which will be delivered soon. The computer is running incredibly slow. The steps I've taken so far have been to delete all unnecessary programs. I installed and ran avast antivirus. It found a few nasties, which were deleted successfully. I turned off system restore too. I also installed and ran spybot and let it delete everything it found. I installed spyware blaster, and ccleaner. I ran ccleaner and also used it to clean up the registry. There were hundreds of entries there.

So as of now, it's still running slow. Other then more ram, which should be here in a day or two, I don't know what it could be.

Hopefully someone can check this log for me. I've used some sites to chec it, but i don't see anything that really stands out.

You have some AOHell garbage running in there, do you need it or use it?
Personaly I would prevent these three from starting with Windows and run the scans manually.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Defender] "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe" -hide
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISTray] "C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\pctsTray.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpybotSD TeaTimer] C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe

These are just not required to start with Windows.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe

One of the reviews I read on Spyware Doctor said that even though it was a very good product, it was also a resource hog.

Windows Defender and Spyware Doctor both running is killing you. I'd uninstall them both for now. I'd also uninstall Dell Support and Viewpoint.

Some of the AOHell stuff is left over from uninstalls. The only thing that gets used is AIM. So I plan of removing everything else that mentions AOHell.

You say this isn't needed: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe But could that have to do with programmable keys on the keyboard, or the mouse even? That's my initial thought on that one. If so, and it's used by the user then I'll leave it, but if not, then it's gone.

I'll see if I can convince them to let me uninstall the dell support stuff. Wanted to last time, but they weren't crazy about the idea. And they absolutely insist on spyware doctor. Guess I'll have to convince them to try the computer without it for a while. Like a test drive.

Thanks guys.

It could very well be Shadow, but if you can prove to yourself they are not using it, dump it, if they are not using it they won't notice anyway.
It could be one of those old keyboards with the "Internet Launch Pad" across the top, I honestly don't know anyone who uses or has ever used that launch pad.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I know anyone that uses that either.

No need to take the keyboard and graphics out, they don't slow things down.
