How do you unblock all those "Access Denied" messages you get when trying to view what's on the computer in Windows Explorer (or whatever vista calls it...) ???
It really is quite aggravating that you can't do such a simple thing. Yes, I am the admin on my own computer. Right clicking and changing permissions also tells me I don't have the rights.
Also, I get the same message when trying to write to an external drive...
TIA

Did you have those files encrypted in Windows XP?
If so, safest bet is going back to your XP installation, unencrypt them, move them to the Vista install, and then, if you need to, encrypt them again. Just hope you haven't wiped out the XP install, otherwise is gonna be nigh impossible to access them.

Sorry I wasn't more clear, Nuk: The problem is on my Vista laptop; never had a problem with XP and no, no encryption, no compression, no etc.. just straight NTFS on the XP drives.

Well, it seems the result of Vista User Account Control (UAC)? Or the file permission configuration?

That looks pretty good, Alaron. I'll be reading it and going thru the links on that link.
Thanks (I hope :))

Got to play with it some, but no joy. :( I did a bunch more searching but only found a "gazillion" people with the same Vista complaint / problem, but no solutions. (I did find a post where someone posted a registry hack, but I don't have a backup yet an don't want to try it.)
Turning of UAC, and that let me do a couple of things like turn off that annoying, and constant popup I was getting because I ran msconfig, but it does not allow me Access to files and folders: I still get the same Access Denied popups.
As Brothersoft mentions, I might be able to go into each location and change Permissions, but I am hesitant to do so: rolling things back would be a problem, for one example.
There has to be something somewhere to simply turn on or off this annoying feature / protection scheme...

I tried it and still no joy... Even in my own folder, I still can't get to look into certain folders, but I did notice that the one's I can't get into have a Shortcut arrow on them... (see attached)
Does mean anything?
