Hello everyone:

I have now been using Trend Micro's Pc-Cillin for the last 4-5 years and have really had enough of it. I have used the free version of AVG as a back up anti virus, but I now am considering making the switch to just the new AVG Internet Suite. Now, with Trend Micro, I was able to purchase a single computer version and use it on multiple other computers. Can I do the same with AVG?

Thanks

No, but you can buy a version licensed for 1, 2, 3, or 5 computers.

Thats what I was afraid of. When I talked with Trend Micro about 4 years ago, they told me I could buy just the 1 computer license, and install it on as many as I wanted. I think I am going to attempt it anyway. I have just about had it with Trend Micro. Thanks GLC.

Why not just use freebies? AVG's free antivirus uses the exact same engine and definitions as the pro.

It really comes down to simplicity. I don't have a problem with the freebies but, since I am at college 9 or so months out of the year, I am not at home to fix my parents computers or my sisters computer so they contract a virus. Seems to me, they really want something similar to Trend Micro in terms of features. As a whole, we have been deterred from Trend Micro because of its lack to pick up some simple virus's recently on one of our laptops. As soon as I installed the freebie version of AVG, its found them right away, and deleted them. Needless to say, as simple a virus as it was, it caused havoc on the computer thus making it virtually useless. I am trying to keep this as simple as possible, without going through the hassle of explaining it, as they have no where near the computer knowledge I have (not saying I know everything, but I have gone through a lot). Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Let me ask this question, I am looking on AVG's website, I see you can download trial versions of the anti virus, spyware, firewall, etc. Are these essentially the same as if I bought the pro version. I do see, that AVG has an offer for the Home Edition of the Internet Suite for 3 computers. Like I said in my previous post, I am trying to make this as simple as possible. What is your suggestion?

The products are essentially the same. The trials are full feature time limited. The only differences between the full versions and the free versions are this - pay for the antivirus and you get custom scanning options, pay for the antispyware and you get background protection and automatic updates, and you can't get individual tech support for the free versions. The suite also gives you a decent firewall and an almost worthless (in my opinion) antispam.

I have just about had it with Trend Micro.

I'm not too familiar with Trend Micro but the other day I had a PC in my workshop
that had problems with the Trend Micro Security Suite. The Trend Micro website
was not useful for solving the problem, so I tried their online Chat support feature
and that thing left me haning for an hour before I totaly gave up. Then I tried
theri Email support and they never replied.

What was the expereince that fustrated you?

Well, when I first started using Trend Micro, it detected all instances of viruses and so on and so forth. When I renewed last year, it seemed that their support for viruses had dropped dramatically as computers were picking up your normal straight forward viruses, but trend micro wasn't detecting them any longer. This is from my previous post: "As a whole, we have been deterred from Trend Micro because of its lack to pick up some simple virus's recently on one of our laptops. As soon as I installed the freebie version of AVG, its found them right away, and deleted them. On a side note, I don't know why you had trouble with their tech support, I have never had any problems contacting them before.

Ok, maybe they had a problem with their website the day I tried to get support.
I'll have to try them again. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I recommend you give NOD32 a try. They just released a new version
with a muich more user friendly user interface. They have a Security Suite as
well as a standalone Anti-virus program. www.eset.com

If you really want simple, easy to use security then Kaspersky or Eset Security Suite are extremely powerful and easy to use. Kaspersky, has a parental control module added to it which might be of use to curb bad surfing habits.

I just went ahead and bought the AVG Internet Suite. One question that I do have, is how do I set the program so that all tracking cookies are deleted, rather than being moved directly to the virus vault?

Scanner, settings, how to act, change the default action from quarantine to delete. This is in the antispyware module.

It appears, that in 7.5, the anti-spyware module is built into the control center. When I select the anti-spyware, I get one dialog box, with no options for setting-and how to act. It is possible that I am blind though.

It's more likely it's somewhere else, I pointed you to how to do it in the standalone antispyware.
