i read in the instructions that there needs to be a break in peroid for the thermal grease. My q6600 is running pretty hot somtimes hitting 70 c and idleing at about 50c, and my case has two big 250mm fans on the side, and 1 120mm fan on the back. i just built the computer on the 4th. i am wondering what kind of diffrence in temps it would make after the break in peroid. Could i have put too much artic silver on? And if i did, wht is the safest way to clean some off?

I think it's like a 2-3 degree difference at most after the break in period.

Make sure you follow the instructions when applying it, and only use the amount needed.

I used rbbing alcohol on a q-tip to clean my processor off. Just let it dry before reapplying the artic silver.

ok, i think i need to clean some off then.Use 90% alcohol and a very clean lint free cloth to clean off the AS5. Paper coffee filters work well too.
could i just clean some off of the heatsink, and leave it on the processor?Yes, you can do that...but make sure the stuff on the CPU is spread very evenly and that you can see some of the metal cap through the layer. To get good thermal transfer the two metal surfaces must make contact with each other. AS5 is just to fill in the microscopic inperfections on both surfaces.

I've found that orange cleaners work very well in removal, too, if you have some around. I would follow that up with an alcohol cleaning.
