Hello all,
I recently untook trying to build my first PC, and its been a bit of an adventure. Some incorrectly shipped and billed items, some DOA. I finally got everything together, but I seem to be having an issue. Specs are as follows (all from NewEgg):
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor Model ADX6400CZBOX
A-DATA 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model ADQVE1B16K
COOLER MASTER Real Power Pro RS-750-ACAA-A1 ATX12V / EPS12V 750W Power Supply
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
PHILIPS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe 2-Tone SATA Model SPD6104BD
Thermaltake Soprano DX VE7000BWS Black 0.8mm SECC Chassis/ Aluminum Front Bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
EVGA 640-P2-N828-A3 GeForce 8800GTS KO 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
I also use a mouse and keyboard that connect via USB. I don't imagine this is an issue, but I thought I'd mention. My monitor is a PC ready Phillips HD TV with a VGA in that I use an adapter that came with the 8800 to connect to.
So I inserted all my parts into the case, connected everything as best as I could figure, and fired her up. A very loud sound that I thought at first was a fan screaming at me, but after systematically unhooking each one and rebooting, I realized wasn't. After reviewing these forums, I'm realizing it could be a beep code, though there is no differentiation in the noise, its one long steady scream like noise.
The LED on the motherboard does light up, and everything powers on, but the noise is loud and immediate, and the TV/monitor never registers as there being any type of video input. I have NOT gone though the process of taking everything out of the case and firing it up that way as HAL suggests, simply because I'd rather avoid doing so if this is an identifiable problem. Any input would be valuable.
