Finding Components For First Build PC

This is my first try at building a pc, I dont wanna go all out on expensive stuff for fear that I might break it or mess it up as this is my first time, but I want a good gaming pc that Ill be able to use. Im not an all out hardcore gamer, just games like Command and Conquer Tiberium WArs and other RTS/FPS games like that mostly. Im using speakers, a kayboard and a mouse that i already have:

Again, especially with the hard drive, optical drive and RAM sticks, if you know of something better thats roughly the same price or less im open to like anything.

You need an OS and you can use the onboard sound. If you decide you don't like it, you can always buy a soundcard later. It will save money to use onboard sound.

Would look to getting the case and PSU seperately. Raidmax and Apevia PSUs are junk. For a case/PSU combo, Antec is about the only brand that has good PSUs. Sparkle or FSP are good quailty budget PSUs. Higher up the scale is Antec/Enermax/Corsair brands.
Would also look to Lite-On for the DVD, Samsungs aren't great.
Any of the video cards would work, the 512meg ram ones would be better. The 3rd one had HD out, needed if connecting an HDTV. I'm not a fan of XFX but they probably be OK.

A HD3850 provides a lot more performance than the 8600GT series, has HD output, good video decoding, and again are much faster than the 8600GT series while costing only a little more than the more expensive 8600GTs. You'll need about 500 watts for the video card though, but getting a good power supply with a decent amount of wattage will save you a lot of headaches now and in the future.

yea that type of card was my second choice, I think ill actually get the 512 MB version of that card though, only $30 more than the 256 MB you listed.
