Last night i decided to take off my cpu's heatsink to check if it needed any more thermal paste too keep it cool after the fan noise became unbearable when any link or website opened up. I saw that it did need more thermal paste so i decided to re-attach the heat sink and apply the thermal paste today. When i reconnected everything up the pc booted but there was no display and my usb mouse didnt light up i checked and everything seemed fine.
Any one know what can be causing this problem?
(Note : fans would spin up also to high but not slow down after a while like they used to during boot up)

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?
What are the complete system specs? List the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

We need a model number. System properties will tell you what it is if you don't know.

There is such a thing as using too much thermal compound. The two metal surfaces (CPU and heatsink) must make physical contact for thermal transfer to occur. If you have too much thermal compound it acts like a insulator and very little thermal transfer occurs. What you want to do is have a nice even layer on both surfaces that is translucent (you can see the surface material) before you mount the heatsink.

If you try to enter the bios do you get a display then?
Whenever messing around inside of a computer you should always do a check around to make sure you didnt dislodge anything internally. Even a slight move of a cable could make a problem. So do a run through inside and make sure everything is plugged it, if you want reseat any cards and boot up again.

Some how it worked after i took out all of the memory and my graphics card and re-inserted them, i guess ill add the thermal paste tomorrow (freebie from a friend) .
Thanks for your insight on that cricket and do you know any tutorials that will show me how to apply the paste (my first time)?
Thanks You All
