I have two possible cases in mind, one is the Antec Sonata III with a built-in 500W power supply. The other is a Cooler Master that I would outfit with a Thermaltake 430W Power supply, bringing its total cost to very close to that of the Antec. The specs seem pretty similar if I'm not mistaken, so I was wondering what everyone's opinions are as far as which one I should go with.

The Sonata is a good choice. The case is really a matter of preference, but as far as the power supply is concerned, you could do better than Thermaltake. Either stick with Antec's case, or beef up the PSU to something from Fortron Source Group, Sparkle Power or Corsair and stick it in the CoolerMatser. I actually just ordered a 450W Fortron Source unit for about 50 bucks.

If you like the looks of both, I would go for the Antec. Very quiet, nice power supply, and 50 more watts. The 50 watts can be a big deal if you are building for gaming. 450 watts is a little tight for most of the true gaming video cards although plenty of power for a more basic home machine.
